ChristianGovernance Report – January 6, 2011
Biblical worldview training is imperative for today’s youth
- Are your teens coming to WAY Camp 2011? -
Below is an excellent presentation of the case for securing solid Biblical worldview training for our youth. These observations were made in an online conversation in another context, but they demonstrate the necessity of diligent training in Biblical worldview for Christians who share God’s multi-generational vision for the advancement of His Kingdom. Below these comments is information about ChristianGovernance’s 2011 WAY Camp, our Biblical worldview youth camp. The deadline for the best earlybird price is fast approaching. Some of the camp costs can be covered as a charitable donation. Please call us for more details if you are considering registering your teens. You can also download our brochure with the pre-registration form and the full registration form from our website: www.waycamp.ca.
The goal of Dewey and the rest of the Fabians of the latter 19th century was to re-educate the populace out of a commitment to biblical authority to one of the supremacy of the place of man. Even well intentioned, informed Christians have the zeitgeist of today so ingrained in their worldview that it is hard to overcome thinking and responding outside of those humanistic categories.
When we had the 20th anniversary of our high school graduation, we were asked to write a blurb on what we had been doing since. I wrote I had been trying to overcome the atheistic worldview I learned in public schools. What is the cure? It must be a long-term commitment to correcting the problems with our thinking and educational materials so that we raise up new generations not encumbered with such an impediment.
What I am getting at is that we might be better served if at least some who are in the position to do so, focus not on what we can do today to bring about change that we can see today. Rather, we need to lay a foundation that succeeding generations will be better equipped to implement. Christian schools and homeschooling are basic to that. But if they do not have educational materials that address every area of life from the standpoint of: it is God’s creation and He is the one who informs us of the meaning of all facts (material and immaterial), they are fighting a losing battle.
The reason so many Christians do not first think of at least trying to apply biblical principles to the affairs of this life (at all levels of society) is that they just do not “naturally” think that way. Why? Because they were educated not to think that way. They may know that the chief end of man is to glorify God, but then they apply that by thinking that not stealing pencils at work is the end of that duty. Likewise, when there is a disaster of some sort, their first thought is “what is the government going to do about it?” It is not, “What hath God wrought?” and “What have we done to incur this from God?” and “What does God expect me to do in His name to address this matter?” It just does not come “naturally” to us to think this way.
WAY Camp Announcement – Earlybird price deadline is approaching
If you have youth between the ages of 15 and 19, please read on – and learn about this summer’s Biblical worldview youth camp – WAY (Worldview & Apologetics Youth) Camp – in Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec…
We want to introduce you to ChristianGovernance’s Christian youth camp – a Biblical worldview, apologetics and leadership camp. We call it WAY Camp because of the acronym noted above and because early Christians, as we learn in Acts, were known as people of The Way.
We are excited and thank God for the vision and preparations thus far for this camp.
Some of the topics for the 24 sessions during this week-long camp are:
* Origins and science
* Defending the Christian faith
* “Babylon University”
* Life Purpose Planning
* Practical ethics
* “I Want You to Swear”
Our scheduled guest speakers are:
* Aaron Goerner, pastor of Christ Church Reformed Presbyterian (RP) congregation in New York state
* Calvin Smith of Creation Ministries International
* Brian Murray, the director of Gillespie Academy in Woodstock, Ontario, and an associate pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church
* Brian Brodie, dairy farmer and long-time ruling elder at the Hudson-St. Lazare RP church
* Steve Zink, assistant pastor at Ottawa RP church
* There will also be lots of time for fun and fellowship, including some organized physical activity
The location is Temple Pastures, a retreat centre 20 minutes north-east of Ottawa in Gatineau. The week we’ve reserved is Mon.-Fri., July 18-22. The address for Temple Pastures is 286 Fogarty Road, Gatineau, QC J8R 3L4.
This is going to be an intense and exciting week-long experience for youth who want an intensive week of training in doctrine and the Christian faith; in how to be a reasonable Christian; and how to effectively share and defend their faith.
The cost per camper will be $450. (Earlybird discounts and other pricing information is provided below.)
The reality is that it’s hard to find a better investment for young people these days than solid Biblical worldview and apologetics teaching. Upwards of 80% of young adults are leaving the church when they move out of home and into university or the workforce. The best research indicates that much of the reason for this is that they aren’t intellectually grounded in their faith, so they flounder in the face of challenges from their peers and lose confidence in their faith. I know we all think it won’t happen to our children – but even if it doesn’t, the solid grounding from apologetics and training in the distinctive Biblical approach to every area of life is a benefit to all of our youth. It builds courage and confidence, and is necessary for solid leadership.
Early indications are that we might have some New York youth attending as well, and space is limited. We are promoting the camp widely throughout the Christian community in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario/Western Quebec, so please respond as soon as possible if you are interested in sending any of your children to the camp this year. July still seems far away, but we know that when it comes to summer schedules, many of you are already making plans. The Early Bird price for the camp is $415 until June 1st, 2011. You can get an additional $15 off the camp fee and pay only $400 if we receive the camper’s pre-registration form by February 28th, 2011 with at least 50% of the cost. [NOTE: We have extended the deadline for the $400 price by one month. Please use this deadline, in place of the earlier deadline that you may still see on earlier materials. To take advantage of this price, we need at least 50% of your registration by Feb. 28th.]
Please contact us if you are going to need help covering the full cost of the camp for your son or daughter. We don’t price to be the sole factor preventing their attendance. There are Christians who recognize the importance of solid Biblical worldview training who will be able to help with some subsidies for some of our campers.
The camp capacity is 40 young people, so let us know as early as possible of your interest in sending your children.
Your child will be coming home with more than just the important material that they soak into their minds during their week at camp. They will also return from camp with a handbook full of resources and notes from the different sessions, as well as some books that relate to the topics discussed. They will also return with great memories and new friends and stronger friendships with Christian peers who are close enough to keep in touch with long after camp is over.
Remember the date: Mon.-Fri., July 18-22. You can check out the venue at Temple Pastures‘ website here: http://www.templepastures.org/.
You can get a lot more information from our WAY Camp website: www.waycamp.ca. You will find bios for our speakers there as well as a downloadable schedule for the week and directions for the camp location. You can also download a brochure, which includes the pre-registration form. You can also download the full registration form, which includes a medical waiver and other important information. If you would like us to mail you any copies of the brochure, please email or call us to let us know: firstname.lastname@example.org or 613-496-0091.
We look forward to speaking with each of you and your teens who may be interested in this exciting opportunity to strengthen their faith, to challenge them towards leadership and to energize them about serving God in the ways He has planned for them in the years ahead.
Yours in Kingdom-building service,
Rev. Mitchell Persaud, Dave Joslin, Jonathan Bloedow
